Tucked away between the Little Creatures Brewery and Creatures Next Door, is a super cool function venue – The Deck. Brought to you by the experienced team at Little Creatures, this venue has a great outdoor space, overlooking the iconic Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour. It has the same eclectic charms as Creatures Nextdoor, with weathered decking and retro furnishings.

There is also a large indoor area, with your own private bar, and a marquee with extensive seating, suited for either a cocktail style function or a sit-down event.

I was lucky enough to be the wedding celebrant at a fantastic wedding here recently. The wedding ceremony was at 5 pm on a Saturday in February. This was a great time, as the real heat of the day had faded, however, it was still a lovely balmy 26 degrees for the ceremony. The ceremony was held overlooking the harbour, so it had a really fantastic Freo vibe to the event.

Before the ceremony began, guests sat in old school wooden pews overlooking the harbour and the rustic arch. It was a fantastic outdoor space for guests to mingle while waiting for the bridal party to arrive. Thanks to the high walls, the brunt of the Fremantle Doctor is kept at bay, so as not to make it too windy for the guests.

The whole area was also tastefully decorated with rustic furnishings and fresh flowers in retro vases and jars around the venue.

Following the 30 minute ceremony, the bridal party left to take photos around the many awesome locations in and around Fremantle Wharf. From the Indian Ocean to the boats and wharf to street art, there are so many great spots right near The Deck to take photos, so the bridal party didn’t have to go far, and travel everywhere on foot.

Due to the 5 pm start time, the wedding photographer was also able to capture some absolutely fantastic shots of the sunset over the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour.

While the bridal party were off taking photos, the guests were enjoying some live music out on The Deck with cocktails and canapés. The great thing about having your ceremony and reception at the same venue, is your guests don’t have to go anywhere to entertain themselves while the photos are taking place.

The Deck staff are fantastic at accommodating any requests for the venue set-up and music requirements. In this case, there was a live band for part of the night (with a designated raised stage area). This also served as the main stage for speeches and toasts. Following the live band, there was a DJ set up and plenty of space for the dance floor.

Once the sun was set, the place was lit up with hundreds of tea lights and candles, creating a really great atmosphere, which saw many guests relaxing on the decking overlooking the water, while others headed to the dance floor. The talented bride and groom even got up and had a sing-along!

The combination of both indoor and outdoor areas means you get to take full advantage of the gorgeous summer weather, however, there is a large indoor area in the event of rain, which is also air-conditioned to keep your guests cool.

The Little Creatures team can even organise Breakfast for your guests, the morning after your wedding!
